Walpurgis Night Celebrations
Shake off those winter blues, spring is here and it's time to warm up and break out with the Walpurgis Night celebration.
Walpurgis Night occurs every April 30th and is celebrated in over five different European countries. It is a tradition that dates back to the 14th century. Though it is a recreation of historical importance and thankfulness, it most commonly exists today as a celebration of spring arriving.
Just like you, at this point in the year, the people of Sweden are ready for some warm weather. That's why, when it finally approaches, Walpurgis Night does not go unnoticed. There are a wide variety of activities that happen to celebrate this joyous day. The biggest part of the demonstration is the lights of a bon fire. After that, there is often a special speech by a prominent Swede discussing the honor of spring. Lastly, there is music, and dancing straight through midnight.
Don't plan on getting a ton of sleep here, but in case you need an extraordinary bed to rest in, stay at the Best Western Hotel Karlaplan in Stockholm. No matter if you rest before or collapse after, you'll be thankful to recover from Walpurgis Night here.
